PUNTA ARENAS - CHILE
Punta Arenas has a population of 119.496 habitants, and is the largest and oldest city in Patagonia. It was established in the year 1848 on the shores of Magellan Strait, the most important natural maritime passage between the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean, at a crossroads of old sailors, pirates, and aboriginal tribes, which today are practically extinct.
The rich history of Punta Arenas has materialized into an interesting architecture which was popular at the end of the last century. One of the mansions built during that time has been converted into José Nogueira Hotel. The Hotel has a splendid old-style atmosphere that reminds you of that heroic time, but still has all the comforts of a modern hotel. There are also good museums that help you learn about and appreciate the true Patagonia.
